Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and spirits as we embark on the exciting month of June. It’s hard to believe how quickly this school year is progressing! As always, I am delighted to share some important updates and highlights from our vibrant school community.

We are thrilled to see some new developments on the playground, particularly the new Astro-Turf. Our very talented Site Manager is also working on a small project which will feature more seating and a exploration area for our children, so watch this space!

We have a very busy term ahead, so make sure you have all the Summer Events in your diary. We are looking forward to our International Day, where we will be exhibiting a range of cuisines around the world. We will also be holding an Ascot Road Talent Show (in house) for children who wish to show off a particularly talent.

Year Group News

Reception

Reception have started looking at their new theme ‘Sunshine and Sunflowers’. We have been planting seeds and exploring the different parts of plants and flowers.

Year 1

In Year 1, we have been learning how to describe a setting using adjectives. We’ve linked this to our new class reader ‘The Storm Whale’ by Benji Davies. We can’t wait to invent our own versions.

Year 2

Year 2 have started their Geography topic of Coastline. We explored atlases to find different coastlines and then began to explore human and physical features of a coastline.

Year 3

Year 3 enjoyed a trip to the natural history museum exploring the exhibitions as well as having a chance to be scientists and helping to solve the mystery of the volcanos.

Year 4

In science we have been learning about "Electrical Circuits & Conductors" and sorting objects into two group which were things powered by battery & the mains.

Year 5

'To open our Ground breaking Greeks topic we have written foundation stories. Drawing on ideas from other cultures, we have created our own myths. The results are pretty magical!'

Year 6

In their History lessons this term, Year 6 have been studying the Ancient Kingdom of Benin. They most recently have been looking at the Bronze Plaques of Benin and understanding the differences between a Primary and Secondary Source.

Current Attendance 93.41%

The school's attendance stands at 93.41% While we are committed to providing a positive and engaging learning environment, it's crucial for us to collectively address this issue as our current attendance is slightly below the national average, which is 94.3%.

Playground

Have you had the chance to see the recent enhancements to our playground? We're excited to announce the addition of new benches and a picnic area, just in time for the summer season. Additionally, we're delighted to introduce the installation of AstroTurf, providing a safe and enjoyable space for children to engage in sports activities. Furthermore, you may have noticed the charming new flower beds, courtesy of the PTA's generous contribution.

School Value - Fairness

This term we are focusing on the value 'Fairness' . Fairness isn't just a nice idea; it's the glue that holds communities together. It's about giving everyone a fair shot, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Whether it's in the workplace, school, or even just our interactions with each other, fairness sets the stage for trust and cooperation.

We are already looking at clubs for the Autumn Term. If you are a parent that is happy to give up their time one hour a week to run a club, we would be very interested. Please contact the office (subject to checks).

Pick up and Drop Off

Ensuring the safety of children during pick-up and drop-off is a collective responsibility. Let's collaborate to decrease car speeds, park in safe and lawful areas when driving, and remain vigilant of any students walking across the road.
