Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to a brand-new school year at Ascot Road! A very special welcome goes to our new Reception families and to all parents and carers who are joining our school community for the first time, we are delighted to have you with us.

Over the summer, our EYFS classrooms have undergone a wonderful refurbishment, creating an even more engaging and nurturing environment for our youngest learners. In Key Stage 2, children are also experiencing something new this year, with specialist teachers leading lessons in a range of subjects, helping to deepen knowledge and inspire enthusiasm. Around the school, you will also notice displays celebrating a very special milestone – ten years since Ascot Road first opened its doors.

As we begin the term, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of following our school policies. This includes ensuring children wear the correct school uniform with pride and that all families continue to support our food protocols, which help us keep our community safe and consistent.

We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead, filled with opportunities for learning, growth, and celebration. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

September at Ascot Road Primary

Curriculum Specialism in KS2

We are delighted to share that from September, Ascot Road will be introducing an exciting new approach to our curriculum. In the afternoons, children will move between classes, similar to how secondary schools operate and will be taught by teachers with specialist expertise in specific subjects, including Humanities, Science, Art/DT, PE, Music and Spanish. This means our pupils will benefit from high-quality, focused teaching in each subject area. Not only will this help them to develop deeper knowledge and stronger skills, but it will also nurture their creativity, curiosity and confidence, preparing them well for the next stage of their learning journey.

Welcome to our new Reception Cohort!

We welcomed our new Reception cohort at the beginning of September into our fantastic newly refurbished early years classrooms. The children are settling in well and have loved exploring their new environment and making friends with their peers!

Home Learning

We will no longer be sending home Learning Posters, as the full curriculum for each year group is available on our school website. This outlines what children will be learning across the year in all curriculum areas.

In Reception, learning is documented on Tapestry and any home learning will also be communicated here.

In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, children will receive weekly spellings to learn at home, which will be tested every Friday. Reading books will also be sent home weekly. We ask that parents and carers read with their child at least twice a week and record this in their Reading Record Book.

At times, teachers may also send home additional homework tasks to help consolidate the learning from that week. In addition, each term your child’s teacher will set a project with different options for how the learning can be presented.

Healthy eating is strongly linked to positive behaviours and mental well being. Please ensure the snacks you send in with your child are healthy snacks

Important Reminders

Please ensure the food your child brings into school does not contain any nuts as we are a NUT FREE school.

Please ensure all your children's items are clearly labelled! Uniform, water bottles, packed lunch boxes, coats.... we have so many items end up in the lost property every week, most of which is not labelled. Please ensure you label everything so if lost it can be quickly returned to its owner!

Start and end of school day notice

For everyone's safety, we kindly ask that children refrain from using the playground equipment or playing ball games on the school grounds during drop-off and pick-up times. We also request that families leave the school grounds promptly after collecting their children, so the gates can be securely locked. Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Attendance

The current attendance at Ascot Road is 89.4% which is below national at 94.5%. Regular attendance is key to your child’s success. Each day in school builds their academic progress and social skills. Missing school can lead to gaps in learning, making it harder to keep up with lessons. By prioritising attendance, you help your child stay engaged and reach their full potential.
