Dear Parents and Carers,

I’m incredibly proud of the journey Ascot Road has taken since I became headteacher, and I’m excited to continue this journey with all of you. We’re also celebrating our recent Ofsted inspection, which you may have seen highlighted in the local news. Together, we are making great strides, and I look forward to what lies ahead for our school community.

In this newsletter, we highlight the children’s progress, from enriching school trips and workshops to celebrating our foundation subjects, including Science, RE, Art, and Design Technology.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for our Christmas Fair on Saturday, 7th December. It promises to be a wonderful event, with the added delight of our Christmas Choir showcasing their beautiful voices. We look forward to seeing you there and raising funds to support our school.

Reception

Reception explored Cassiobury Park in their hunt for everything Autumn.

They found a variety of different trees and leaves, insects, animals and even a frog. We all had an amazing time!

Year 1

To complement our learning about childhood in the 1950s we had 2 special visitors who came into our school. They spoke about their childhood experiences and told us how they celebrated Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation. We were able to explore some artefacts including coins and pictures. We also listened to some music from the 1950s. Such a fun way to consolidate our learning!

Year 2

Year 2 have been learning about Losar the Buddhist Festival and the importance of the prayer flags. These use these prayer flags to write their wishes, dreams and hopes for the new year.

Year 3

Year 3 have made Bell Beaker style pots from clay after learning about them as part of our Bronze Age topic.

Year 4

Year 4 have been exploring sound. They have been listening to sounds and investigating how sound travels.

Year 5

Year 5 have been making basic pneumatic machines for a Design and Technology project that is the focus for us this term. As our skills and knowledge develops, we are intending to construct increasingly more complicated pneumatic devices that are able to perform simple tasks.

Year 6

Year 6 is currently working on a Design and Technology project titled "Make and Mend," which ties into their World War topic. This week, they’ve been exploring the concept of upcycling old clothes to create something new. Next week, they’ll be diving into more technical skills as they begin learning the art of sewing.

Value of the month

Kindness is what makes our school a happy and welcoming place for everyone. Simple things like sharing a smile, helping a friend, or saying something nice can make someone’s day better. We love seeing our students show kindness every day, big or small! Let’s keep spreading kindness and making our school the best place to be.

Ofsted

We are thrilled to announce that our school has received a Good rating in our recent Ofsted inspection, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and wider school community. This fantastic achievement highlights the progress and excellence we strive for every day. We are also proud to share that this accomplishment has been featured in the Watford Observer, showcasing our school’s success to the wider community. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this milestone – together, we continue to make our school a place to be proud of!

Well done to all the children who braved the cold and took part in Bikeability. They all did incredibly well and will receive their certificates for completing their level.

We are very proud of our students for displaying our school values, the instructors said their behaviour was exemplary.

PTA Glow Disco

Thank you to our fabulous PTA for organising a great disco for our KS1 and KS2 Children. Everyone had a fantastic time!

Selling Cookies to raise money for Charity

Thank you to the LVC Team (Learner Voice Council) for creating some fantastic cookies and cakes to sell. They raised over £60, which they are sending over to the homeless shelter in Watford. #Supportingourcommunity.
